Rise of New Illinois Gaming Companies

Oct 1, 2021 | Blog Posts, Illinois Gaming Companies

Illinois is known for its rich history in the gaming industry, with companies like Binion’s Horseshoe and Harrah’s Entertainment. However, as of late there has been a decline in interest for this region to host any type of casino or gambling company. It’s not just Illinois that has seen an increase in competition from other states vying for their own share of the pie, however; neighboring Indiana is also seeing this rise in competition with the development of new casinos across their state.

The Illinois casino industry might be dying, however, it does not mean that Illinois is giving up without a fight. The Chicago Skyway is just one example of Illinois trying to get people back out onto the streets and into Illinois casinos despite there being so many other choices available around them.

Illinois’s Gaming Board

The IGB was established by the Illinois Legislature in July 1870. It oversees all gaming activities throughout Illinois including riverboat gambling at Des Plaines Riverboat Casino, Grand Victoria Casino Elgin, Harrah’s Metropolis Hotel & Casino, Hollywood Casino Aurora, and Joliet Slammers Stadium (new card room) along with the Illinois Lottery.

The Illinois Gaming Board is responsible for licensing all gaming-related activities including table games, slot machines, and video poker in Illinois casinos. They are also responsible for investigating complaints of cheating or stealing at any licensed casino within Illinois. The Board ensures that all Illinois citizens receive a safe, fair, and equitable environment when they visit one of these establishments throughout Illinois state. It is an important job that requires dedication to duty but it has proven difficult recently as the number of people visiting Illinois casinos continues to drop off significantly due to increased competition from sites like online Vegas slots and other new forms of gambling available through mobile devices such as iPhones Android apps etc. This means that Illinois casinos must now think of new ways to attract customers and keep them coming back.

 What went wrong?

What went wrong is that  Illinois gaming companies started opening up all over the state, thinking they could cash in on this new form of entertainment. They failed to realize that there was already a thriving market for casinos and Illinois gambling, one which had been well established by many other successful businesses. The Illinois casino industry is not as easy to break into as some might think it is.

What we can learn from this going forward?

What we have to do going forward is that Illinois gaming companies must do what they can to innovate, whether it be through adding new gambling options or trying something completely different. If Illinois gaming companies keep doing the same thing, they are going to fail.
